What Am I Supposed To Do Next? You'll Know When You Get There...

How many writers out there are feeling the lack of writing inspiration right now?

I'm right there with you as I sit at my computer, day after day, and try to make the words come. The harder I try, the worse it gets.

I seek direction in all the old, familiar ways I've always run to in times like this, but nothing seems to work.

I try and fit this season of stagnancy into a proverbial box that I've created only within my own mind and search for a name to call it.

I often ask if I'm doing the right thing?

Am I on the right path?

And if so, why aren't the words flowing as they should?

And then I see this quote - so simply profound, yet so blatantly obvious.

"You'll know when you get there. For now, just keep typing."

See, I've forgotten that writing is a spectacular journey, not some sort of lackluster duty.

Sure, it's filled with ups, then downs, latency, then inspiration, drought, then abundance.

But isn't that what makes it even more magical?

I've been searching for a sign, a spark, a tangible piece of something, anything really, to inspire me. To tell me where I'm supposed to go next.

But in seeing this quote, I suddenly realized that I need to stop looking at the big picture and guessing what's going to come next.

I'll know when I get there. I always do.

For now, all I need is to just keep typing and my head, heart, and hands will work out the rest along the way.

It's time to take a step back, let go of the negativity holding me back, and remember what the journey is all about in the first place -

This gift I've been given of getting to be an author.

And that gift is a magical journey I'm ready to open and pour myself into heart, mind, body, and soul, starting today!
